Readme.txt:
What is TimeKiller?
Its purpose is to allow you to use evaluation software
beyond the time limit. You can use it forever if you like
(But only if it uses date and time checking for licensing
protection.) There are other schemes used by program writers.
Read Timeset.txt for full instructions.
NOTE:
Timeset is a required file. TimeKiller will not work
without it.
The instructions are elaborate and clear. If you do not
understand them you should not be using this program.
TimeKiller is free.
I have learned a lot from downloading cracks and this
is a very small repayment.

beyond the time limit. You can use it forever.
(But only if it uses date and time checking for licensing

It is suggested that you read these instructions through
before starting. They are long, to cover the installation
process in detail, but the actual process is quick and easy.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
__________________________________________________________
Caution!!!:
This is the TimeKiller resource file.
Do NOT change its name. It is needed for the
program to function.
Any typing below the three top entries can, however, be
safely deleted if you feel the need to do that. It might
cause the file to load slightly quicker. Remember to save
a full copy for future use.
___________________________________________________________
The first three lines MUST contain the
following three items in the correct order:
___________________________________________________________
First line: Program name to launch. Include the path.
EXAMPLE:
C:\Program Files\MyProgram.exe
____________________________________________________________
Second Line: Backdated date to set. You should usually use
today's date. Using an older date may cause your program to see
an earlier date than it saw the last time you ran it. This often
causes it to immediately, and permanently, expire.
Example:
11/11/2003 or 01/01/2003
_____________________________________________________________
Third Line: Backdated time to be set. You should usually use
the time it is right now. Using an older time may cause your
program to see an earlier time than it saw the last time you
ran it. This may cause it to immediately, and permanently,
expire.
EXAMPLE:
Hour:Minutes:Seconds: AM or PM (Use two digits for each one.)
06:15:30 PM or 05:30:00 AM
_____________________________________________________________
VERY IMPORTANT RULES:
Use NO spaces before or after an entry.
There must be an <enter> immediately after each entry.
Nothing else may go above the first dotted line
on this page.
_______________________________________________________________
To Use TimeKiller
1. Copy Timeset.txt (this file) and Timekiller.exe
into the folder of the program to launch.
2. Fill in the three items of information described above.
3. Launch TimeKiller instead of your program.
_______________________________________________________________
Troubleshooting:
If TimeKiller notifies you that it can't find Timeset.txt:
Right-click on your new shortcut and select "Properties."
Check the entry named "Start in:" This line must contain the PATH
to the program folder where Timeset.txt (and your program) are
stored. It should, actually, be there by default.
EXAMPLE:
Start in: C:\Program Files\MyProgram.exe
Extensive testing has uncovered no other problems.
______________________________________________________________
NOTE:
your original program shortcut should be deleted! If you were to
mistakenly click on it, your program would see the real date and
could immediately expire!
If this were to happen you may not be able to recover your program
from it's shareware protection!
______________________________________________________________
While TimeKiller is running, a small-unmarked Wizard logo will be
displayed. When the logo disappears, TimeKiller has closed.
It is now totally GONE from memory.
______________________________________________________________
LIMITATION:
Some programmers "cripple" their software (such as: "can't save
.")
If your trial software comes crippled, TimeKiller will not be of
much help to you.
If your program has already expired, you MIGHT be able to
reinstall it and use TimeKiller. Many programs, however,
will remain expired after being reinstalled. You could try
backdating your clock to the date of your initial installation
and reinstalling your program once more. If that were to work, use
that date and time in TimeKiller. There are other ways to correct
this problem but I can't teach all of it in this limited space.
GOOD HINT: Easiest way is to use a program that traces ALL items
installed when you ORIGINALLY install your programs. Then you will
be able to remove all traces of them and cleanly reinstall them for
a new trial period. One such program is: InCtr Installation Tracker
(free) from PC Mag.

GENERAL HELP AND INFORMATION:
(Not required reading - unless you need it)
______________________________________________________________
How do I get a TimeKiller shortcut onto my menu?
Drag the TimeKiller file from your program's folder while holding
down the Alt button.
Drag it to your START button. Your main menu will pop open.
Continue dragging it up your menu and out onto the Program menu.
Keep going until it's where you want it.
You can place a shortcut on your desktop the same way.
To rename the new shortcut to your program's name, just right-click
on it and chose "Rename" from the pop-up list.
For more information, and other ways to create and name shortcuts,
read "Help" on your main menu. You should learn to use your system!
__________________________________________________________________
How do I change the Icon of the new TimeKiller shortcut
back to the original icon of my program?
Don't like my icon? Win2K works like this. Other versions are similar.
Just right-click on the shortcut and choose "Properties" from the pop-u
p
menu that appears. Select "Change Icon" from the form that then appears
.
Now select "browse." After you select Browse, You must select the
"Files of Type" drop-down menu and select "Programs." Navigate
back to
your program's folder. Select your program and then "OK". Select th
e icon
and then "OK". Select "apply" and then "OK".
Your new shortcut should now look exactly like your original
program shortcut.
For more information, related to your specific Windows version, read your
Windows Help file. That's what it's for!

How does TimeKiller Work?
Many shareware programs check the date to see if your trial period is over.
Several also check the time to see if you have been "messing around"
with the date and/or time. If your program works that way, Timekiller is
able to fool it into thinking that every day is the same day.
Here's what it does - In this order:
1. The date and time, from the top of this file, are read.
The name and location of your program is also read.
2. Your current date and time are saved.
3. Your computer date and time are set to the date and time read above.
4. Your program is launched. TimeKiller waits for a signal that indicates
that your program is done loading.
5. Timekiller then waits until your program checks the date and time.
6. Your actual date and time are then restored.
7. TimeKiller SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY.
Simple!
______________________________________________________________________
NOTE: This program will not interfere with your computer's environment
and it cleans up after itself before closing. No trash is left behind in
your memory (unlike many commercial programs.)
While operating, it is constantly checking for a potential clash with other
programs that are currently running. If a problem occurs, (unlikely) it
will stop and tell you about it. It will often tell you what the problem is.
______________________________________________________________________
HINT:
If you have two or more program files residing in the same folder together,
and you must lock the time on all of them, just make additional copies of
TimeKiller.exe and Timeset.txt. Rename them Timekiller1.exe,
TimeKiller2.exe
and so forth. Do the same with Timeset. Now they will all live happily
together (If you don't mix up the instructions between them.)
______________________________________________________________________
This program was designed to run in all versions of Windows (except Win
7;5
without the upgrade.)
TimeKiller will gradually set your clock back a few seconds at a time.
If you use a program to keep the clock accurate, this will not be
noticable. Otherwise, you may want to correct the clock yourself once in
a great while.
TimeKiller is written in Visual Basic 6. If you have no other programs
written in VB6 (not likely) you can download the runtime files from
Microsoft or most of the shareware download sites for free.
TimeKiller is freely given as a tiny repayment for all that I have received
from the crack sites. It's been a great education!
Perhaps a fully automatic setup version will be available at a later date.

Copyright:
This program is not copyrighted. Frankly, I really don't give a dam what yo
u
do with it. Don't eat it and try not to hurt yourself.
Good Advice:
You do know, don't you, that it's illegal to tamper with shareware prot
ection?
If the author starves because of you, he/she will stop writing updates.
You might want to consider paying for the programs that you get good use from.
